MARION RENOVATIONS

Seaside Village Outdoor Living

This house in an historic seaside village was first built in 1820 with many additions occurring over the years. The new owner was looking to update the interior and create a welcoming porch along the street. Porches create an intermediate zone between public and private realms –it’s a social gesture where interactions with neighbors can happen organically. In Marion, porches appear on houses of every vintage throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. The new roofed porch is upheld with simple columns and enclosed by a rail. This creates an outdoor room and provides cover from the weather as one enters the front door. First floor renovations include upgrades to the main bathroom. On the second floor, a skylight was added to illuminate the stair hall, and a primary bedroom suite was created consisting of bedroom, bathroom, and closet. A new bay window on the second floor enlarges a sitting area adjacent to the primary bedroom suite.
